Inside Media: State of the First Amendment

July 16, 2013
Location: Knight TV Studio

Guests: Jeffrey Rosen, Ken Paulson and Gene Policinski

The Newseum hosts a special "Inside Media" program featuring a discussion of the new "2013 State of the First Amendment" national survey, conducted annually by the Newseum Institute's First Amendment Center.

The panelists are:

  • Jeffrey Rosen, First Amendment scholar; president and CEO of the National Constitution Center
  • Ken Paulson, president of the First Amendment Center
  • Gene Policinski, chief operating officer of the Newseum Institute

The survey, which has been conducted each year since 1997, measures public knowledge and views on the First Amendment and related issues — which this year include topics as varied as confidential news sources, perceived newsroom bias, student free speech and the intersection of religion and public policies.
