WASHINGTON — The Newseum's latest exhibit, "Pictures of the Year," spotlights stunning, award-winning images that bring the museum's visitors close to the events, issues and people who shaped our world in 2010.

The exhibit features gripping photographs that document flood-ravaged Pakistan and earthquake-torn Haiti, troops on the front lines of the war in Afghanistan and the Gulf Coast oil spill. Triumph and beauty are captured in feature photographs depicting athletic victory during the 2010 Winter Olympics, tigers prowling the jungles of India and penguins frolicking on Antarctic ice. Even Lady Gaga makes an appearance — her first in a Washington museum.

The exhibit showcases the year's best news images from Pictures of the Year International, the oldest photojournalism contest in the world.
